TUCtag 2025: A task for our VR glasses with the “Hall of Dimensions”
On Saturday, May 10, 2025, Chemnitz University of Technology opened its doors on the Reichenhainer Straße campus as part of TUCtag. From 14:00 to 22:00, young and old – but above all YOUNG in the form of future students and interested people – were able to explore the campus and take advantage of information and advice on over 100 degree programs, talk to students and professors and gain authentic insights into laboratories and research facilities.
The Center for Micro and Nanotechnologies, a member of the ForLab network since this year, was also present. The main attraction here is usually a guided tour of the clean room, but this time this could not take place for technical reasons. It was therefore all the more fitting that the ZfM had already prepared in advance for the use of VR glasses in conjunction with the virtual room, which was created as part of one of the ForLab junior research projects. With this immersive application, users can explore the questions: How small is “micro” actually? What does “nano” mean? How big is a blood cell compared to a modern microchip? The virtual exploration of different spaces and scales makes the invisible micro and nano world a little easier to understand and imagine. The feedback was correspondingly positive and the ZfM stand was surrounded by curious visitors.
